VILGA

Vaud International Lesbian and Gay Association

Settling in to Switzerland, new to canton Vaud or just passing through ? Come to VILGA.

VILGA meets once a month, bringing together Vaud’s international lesbian and gay community, along with their Swiss friends.

Gay life doesn’t end once you step outside of London’s West End, New York’s Chelsea or the Marais in Paris.

Find out what’s going on right here on your doorstep and get to meet likeminded people looking to make new friends.

  • Purpose of VILGA

Canton Vaud is home to a number of multinational corporations and international organizations as well as international educational establishments, within which a number of non-Swiss lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people are working.

The region is also welcoming thousands of tourists and visitors each year, many of whom are from the LGBT community.

Finding friends who understand our lifestyle can be a challenge at times. There is nothing more isolating than moving to a new country, especially when you are not part of the straight mainstream.

Finding your feet within the lesbian and gay community can also be difficult, especially for those who might be a little older and feel the LGBT club or bar scene is not as welcoming as it used to be.

The idea behind VILGA is to create a social group which welcomes non-Swiss and their Swiss friends from across the LGBT community. This should be a safe place where people from all backgrounds and cultures can meet and get to know where they live.

Starting with a regular monthly social event, the idea is to build this in to a diverse and outward looking social group which takes part in a spectrum of cultural, sporting and leisure activities within the canton Vaud region.

Helping people to integrate in to local gay life and feel that they have a support network of people they can turn to.

  • Planning

With the support of VoGay’s Annual General Meeting :

    • A core group of four or five interested people will meet in April to set up a small steering committee for VILGA.
    • Adverts will be placed on free websites and selected publications (at the expense of VILGA) following this meeting.
    • VILGA’s steering committee will develop ideas for a first social gathering in May/June after adverts have been allowed enough time to attract some attention.
    • VILGA’ steering committee will look at other areas of support it can offer to the international LGBT community living in or visiting canton Vaud.
